My name is Jack Hunter, and I’m currently a senior at Washington and Lee University studying journalism and data science. I am an experienced play-by-play broadcaster with eight years of experience at the high school and college levels. I currently do play-by-play work for Washington and Lee (NCAA Division III) and the Virginia Military Institute (NCAA Division I), announcing football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and water polo. I also serve as the sideline reporter for ESPN+ broadcasts of VMI football and basketball. I was the play-by-play broadcaster for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2023.
I broadcasted 45 games in 55 days for the Gatemen in the Cape League’s 100th season in 2023. I built relationships with the 70-plus players who wore a Wareham uniform, coaches and baseball operations staff to tell compelling stories throughout the season. I co-hosted a daily pre and post-game show with my broadcast partner, where we discussed team and league-wide trends and conducted interviews. I broadcasted an inning of the Cape League All-Star Game on local NPR affiliates and a half inning of a Gatemen game on NESN. Preparing notes, stats and storylines for two teams every day developed my ability to be consistent and manage my time well.
I interned for the Atlanta Braves Radio Network in the summer of 2022. In my role, I created social media content and helped with show research for both the pre-game and post-game shows on the Braves Radio Network. I filmed and asked questions during post-game Braves’ press conferences for the Network’s Twitter account. I also edited game highlights in Adobe Premiere Pro with BRN game audio for social media, and would post those highlights with engaging captions. I used a variety of sources, including team media guides, Stathead, and Statcast to find compelling and unique statistics that could be talked about on BRN programming.
I am also proficient in news writing, AP style, shooting video, audio and video editing, social media, interviewing, and reporting.
